The strongest fixed-size loop knot — maximum lure action with reliable strength. A saltwater favorite.
loopIntermediateStrength 4/5monofilamentfluorocarbon
How to tie it
- 1Make an overhand knot several inches up the line, leaving it open.
- 2Pass the tag through the hook eye and back through the overhand loop.
- 3Wrap the tag around the standing line (4–5 wraps for light line, fewer for heavy).
- 4Pass the tag back through the overhand loop the same way it exited.
- 5Wet, set the loop size, and pull the standing line to seat; trim.
Common mistakes
- Wrong wrap count for line weight
- Tag exiting the wrong side of the overhand
When not to use it
Braid — this is a mono/fluoro leader knot.
