How to tie it

  1. 1Lay a nail (or small tube) alongside the fly line and leader, overlapping.
  2. 2Wrap the leader around the fly line and nail 6–7 times, working back over itself.
  3. 3Feed the leader tag back under the wraps along the nail/tube.
  4. 4Slide the nail out, wet, and pull the wraps tight; trim both tags.

Common mistakes

  • Loose wraps that don't bite the fly line
  • Skipping the tube/nail (hard to seat)

When not to use it

Everyday spinning setups — it's a fly-line connection.
