Spinning Reel

The easiest reel to learn. The spool is fixed and line peels off the front. Handles light lures and light line beautifully and pairs with a spinning rod.

When to use it

  • Inshore slot fish
  • Bass finesse
  • Trout/panfish
  • Light-to-medium saltwater
  • Beginners

Strengths

  • Very easy to cast, minimal tangles
  • Great with light line and light lures
  • Casts into wind well

Weaknesses

  • Less winching power than conventional
  • Line twist if you crank against the drag
