Popping Cork
A concave/beaded float you 'pop' to imitate feeding sounds, drawing inshore fish to a suspended jig or live shrimp below it. Deadly for reds and trout.
When to use it
- Inshore redfish/trout over grass
- Suspending shrimp or a jig at a set depth
- Covering flats and drawing fish in
Strengths
- The pop calls fish in
- Keeps the bait at a productive depth over grass
- Great search tool
Weaknesses
- Casting a wind-resistant rig
- Can be too noisy in very calm, shallow water
Key facts
Setup: 18"–36" of fluoro leader to a 1/8–1/4 oz jig or live shrimp
Best species: Redfish, speckled trout
Common mistakes
- Leader too long/short for the depth
- Popping too aggressively and spooking fish
