Popping Cork

A concave/beaded float you 'pop' to imitate feeding sounds, drawing inshore fish to a suspended jig or live shrimp below it. Deadly for reds and trout.

When to use it

  • Inshore redfish/trout over grass
  • Suspending shrimp or a jig at a set depth
  • Covering flats and drawing fish in

Strengths

  • The pop calls fish in
  • Keeps the bait at a productive depth over grass
  • Great search tool

Weaknesses

  • Casting a wind-resistant rig
  • Can be too noisy in very calm, shallow water

Key facts

Setup: 18"–36" of fluoro leader to a 1/8–1/4 oz jig or live shrimp
Best species: Redfish, speckled trout

Common mistakes

  • Leader too long/short for the depth
  • Popping too aggressively and spooking fish

Great for these fish
