Electric Reel

A powered conventional reel that cranks baits up from extreme depths at the push of a button. Used for deep-drop fishing well beyond hand-cranking range.

When to use it

  • Swordfish daytime deep-drop
  • Tilefish, deep snapper/grouper

Strengths

  • Consistent retrieve, counts line out

Weaknesses

  • Removes much of the hand-to-hand fight

Key facts

Best species: Swordfish, tilefish, deep-water snapper/grouper

Common mistakes
